Elliptic flow from nuclear collisions is a hadronic observable sensitive to the early stages of system evolution. We report first results on elliptic flow of charged particles at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV using the STAR TPC at RHIC. The elliptic flow signal, v_2, averaged over transverse momentum, reaches values of about 6% for relatively peripheral collisions and decreases for the more central collisions. This can be interpreted as the observation of a higher degree of thermalization than at lower collision energies. Pseudorapidity and transverse momentum dependence of elliptic flow are also presented.

  1. Enhanced hydrodynamic predictions for $v_{02}(p_T)$

    nucl-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

    Ideal hydrodynamics plus a v2-fitted correction predicts v02(pT): a high-pT decrease for charged hadrons, meson-baryon splitting, and a non-monotonic proton v02 in mid-central Pb+Pb.

  2. Correlation between particle spectra and elliptic flow

    nucl-th 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A new three-particle observable, v02(pT), correlates the hadron spectrum with elliptic flow and is predicted to show a mass-ordering inversion at low pT in Pb+Pb collisions.

  3. Rapidity dependence of mean transverse momentum fluctuation and decorrelation in baryon-dense medium

    nucl-th 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Mean transverse momentum fluctuations in baryon-rich matter are driven by energy and baryon density variations, remain robust to baryon diffusion, and show splitting between protons and antiprotons.

  4. Disentangling Initial-State and Evolution Effects in Heavy-Ion Collisions Using EPOS and PHSD

    hep-ph 2025-09 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

By swapping initial conditions and evolution engines between EPOS and PHSD, the authors find that the dynamical evolution stage, not the initial state, dominates final hadron spectra and elliptic flow in 200 GeV Au+Au...

  5. Study of $p_\mathrm{T}$-differential radial flow in blast-wave model

    nucl-ex 2025-05 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A blast-wave model with Gaussian event-by-event fluctuations reproduces ALICE v0(pT) data and yields systematically higher freeze-out temperatures than conventional pT-spectra fits.

  6. Thermal Radiation from an Analytic Hydrodynamic Model with Hadronic and QGP Sources in Heavy-Ion Collisions

    hep-ph 2025-07 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

An analytic hydrodynamic model with QGP and hadronic photon sources reproduces measured non-prompt direct photon spectra in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions and extracts centrality-dependent initial temperatures.

  7. Dependence of two-particle azimuthal correlations on the forward rapidity gap width in pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV

    nucl-ex 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

CMS measures V_nΔ in pPb events at √s_NN = 8.16 TeV as a function of forward rapidity gap width, p_T, and multiplicity in γPb and IP Pb enriched samples, comparing to prior pp, pPb, and γp data plus event generators.

  8. What is the Quark-Gluon Plasma made of?

    nucl-th 2025-06 accept novelty 2.0 of 10

The quark-gluon plasma is best described as a strongly coupled liquid of massive, very short-lived quark and gluon quasiparticles, with sound (phonon) modes becoming the most well-defined collective excitation at low momenta.
