Echoes of compact objects: new physics near the surface and matter at a distance
read the original abstract
It is well known that a hypothetical compact object that looks like an Einsteinian (Schwarzschild or Kerr) black hole everywhere except a small region near its surface should have the ringdown profile predicted by the Einstein theory at early and intermediate times, but modified by the so-called echoes at late times. A similar phenomenon appears when one considers an Einsteinian black hole and a shell of matter placed at some distance from it, so that astrophysical estimates could be made for the allowed mass of the black hole environment. While echoes for both systems have been extensively studied recently, no such analysis has been done for a system featuring phenomena simultaneously, that is, echoes due to new physics near the surface/event horizon and echoes due to matter at some distance from the black hole. Here, following [9, 11], we consider a traversable wormhole obtained by identifying two Schwarzschild metrics with the same mass M at the throat, which is near the Schwarzschild radius, and add a nonthin shell of matter at a distance. This allows us to understand how the echoes of the surface of the compact object are affected by the astrophysical environment at a distance. The straightforward calculations for the time-domain profiles of such a system support the expectations that if the echoes are observed, they should most probably be ascribed to some new physics near the event horizon rather than some "environmental" effect.

Quasinormal Spectra of Fields of Various Spin in Asymptotically de Sitter Black Holes within Generalized Proca Theory
Quasinormal frequencies for massless fields in Proca-hairy de Sitter black holes show scalar ℓ=0 modes most sensitive to hair parameter Q, with damping weakening near the three-horizon regime.

Long-lived massive scalar modes, grey-body factors, and absorption cross sections of the Reissner--Nordstr\"om-like brane-world black hole
Positive tidal charge in this brane-world black hole lowers the effective potential barrier, pushes massive scalar quasinormal modes toward arbitrarily long lifetimes, and increases transmission and absorption.

Echoes of a hairy black hole from gravitational decoupling
Axial perturbations around a hairy black hole from gravitational decoupling produce echo-like gravitational-wave signals that arise dynamically from a double-peak trapping cavity in the effective potential.

Echoes of a hairy black hole from gravitational decoupling
Axial perturbations of a gravitationally decoupled hairy black hole develop a double-peak potential that dynamically generates echo-like late-time waveforms in a suitable (α, β) region.

Echoes and quasinormal modes for static loop quantum black bounces
Scalar perturbations of the loop quantum black bounce spacetime produce echoes in traversable-wormhole configurations with a double-barrier effective potential, but not in regular-black-hole configurations with a sing...

Gravitational perturbations of a regular T-duality inspired black hole: Quasinormal modes, excitation factors, and time-domain evolution
ADM-scaled axial gravitational QNMs of the Jusufi–Singleton regular black hole rise in real part with zero-point length, while damping and excitation-factor magnitudes change more mildly.

Gravitational perturbations of a regular T-duality inspired black hole: Quasinormal modes, excitation factors, and time-domain evolution
Gravitational quasinormal-mode frequencies of a T-duality-inspired regular black hole are computed, showing the zero-point length makes the ringdown oscillate faster and alters damping non-monotonically.

Long-lived quasinormal modes of Asymptotically de Sitter Black Holes in Generalized Proca Theory
Massive scalar perturbations of de Sitter black holes in generalized Proca theory enter a large-mass regime with linearly growing real frequencies and constant damping rates, without true quasi-resonances, plus an ana...
