These notes provide a self-contained introduction to the derivation of the zero, first and second laws of black hole mechanics. The prerequisite conservation laws in gauge and gravity theories are also briefly discussed. An explicit derivation of the first law in general relativity is performed in appendix.

  1. Black Hole Entropy Beyond the Wald Term in Nonminimally Coupled Gravity: A Covariant Phase Space Decomposition

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Black hole entropy in diffeomorphism-invariant nonminimal gravity decomposes as S_H = S_W + S_1 + ΔS, with the extra terms required for bumblebee and Weyl-vector Gauss-Bonnet solutions but not for regular Kalb-Ramond ...

  2. Gravitational constant as a conserved charge in black hole thermodynamics

    hep-th 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0

Using two scalar-gauge pairs and the off-shell ADT formalism in a modified Einstein-Hilbert theory, the authors derive conserved charges for mass, cosmological constant, and G that yield a consistent extended thermody...

  3. Thermodynamics of Kerr-Bertotti-Robinson black hole

    gr-qc 2026-03 conditional novelty 5.0

A consistent thermodynamics of the Kerr-Bertotti-Robinson black hole is constructed by adopting the Christodoulou-Ruffini mass relation, yielding a first law and Smarr formula without an explicit magnetic-field work term.

  4. Holographic pressure and volume for black holes

    hep-th 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Introduces a holographic pressure and volume for static spherically symmetric black holes via quasi-local thermodynamics, showing large black holes become extensive in the large-system limit while small ones do not.
