Observational and Theoretical Constraints on Singular Dark Matter Halos

abstract
The distribution of dark matter around galactic or cluster halos has usually been assumed to be approximately isothermal with a non-zero core radius, which is expected to be of the order of the size of the visible matter distribution. Recently, the possibility has been raised that dark matter halos might be singular in the sense that the dark matter density $\rho$ could increase monotonically with radius $r$ down to a very small distance from the center of galaxies or clusters. Such central cusps in the dark matter density could lead to a high flux of gamma rays from WIMP dark matter annihilation. Here we analyze two possibilities that have been discussed in the literature, $\rho \propto r^{-n}$ with $n \approx 1\ {\rm or}\ 2$, and point out that such density profiles are excluded by gravitional lensing analyses on cluster scales and by the rotation curves of gas-rich, halo-dominated dwarf spirals on small scales. We also point out that if spiral galaxies form by gas infall inside dark matter halos, as they are expected to do in any hierarchical clustering model, such profiles almost always lead to falling rotation curves after infall, contrary to observations.

SMR uses multi-channel map-encoded reinforcement learning to achieve roughly 10% better time utilization than greedy baselines for single-dish radio telescope scheduling.
Super-resonant dark matter at O(100) GeV masses amplifies self-scattering and annihilation cross sections via combined resonance and Sommerfeld effects, necessitating coupled Boltzmann equations to match observed relic density.
Degeneracy-induced depletion from fermionic DM in subhalos creates structure-wide low-density cores consistent with observations, linking profile diversity to formation history.
New hydrodynamical simulations show that dwarf galaxy stellar mass-halo mass relations and star formation histories are more influenced by host halo concentration than by the 5 cMpc scale environment.
In TNG50, compact dwarf satellites (log M_star 8.4-9.2) form via DM-rich gas inflows in low-merger environments, tidal stripping for DM-poor cases, and ram-pressure starbursts for some metal-rich ones.
Simulations show fuzzy dark matter fraction up to 0.3 suppresses low-mass halos in mixed DM models, and a redshift- and fraction-dependent suppression function maps CDM HMFs to MDM HMFs within 0.1-0.2 dex accuracy for z=1-4.
N-body simulations with Arepo calibrate the β parameter in the SIDM gravothermal model, showing it is independent of cross-section, concentration, and mass for velocity-independent scattering, and introduce an effective β model for the long-mean-free-path regime.

Five of seven modeled M31 dwarf spheroidals show anomalously low central DM densities at 150 pc, with star formation heating disfavored as the sole cause.
The two-point correlation function of lensing deflection fields shows sensitivity to variations in SIDM subhalo core-collapse modeling at small scales.

Bayesian analysis of PPTA-DR3 and EPTA-DR2 finds no statistically significant ULDM signals and sets 95% CL upper limits on scalar and dark photon dark matter, improving prior bounds in most mass ranges.
Fisher forecasts indicate joint post-reionization LSS cross-spectra and CMB-S4-like data can reach O(10^{-4}) uncertainty on ultra-light axion fraction for m_a ≲ 10^{-28} eV, with peak sensitivity near 10^{-25} eV.
