The correspondence principle between strings and black holes is a general framework for matching black holes and massive states of fundamental strings at a point where their physical properties (such as mass, entropy and temperature) smoothly agree with each other. This correspondence becomes puzzling when attempting to include rotation: At large enough spins, there exist degenerate string states that seemingly cannot be matched to any black hole. Conversely, there exist black holes with arbitrarily large spins that cannot correspond to any single-string state. We discuss in detail the properties of both types of objects and find that a correspondence that resolves the puzzles is possible by adding dynamical features and non-stationary configurations to the picture. Our scheme incorporates all black hole and string phases as part of the correspondence, save for one outlier which remains enigmatic: the near-extremal Kerr black hole. Along the way, we elaborate on general aspects of the correspondence that have not been emphasized before.

Wheeler-DeWitt wavefunctions for 5d BKL dynamics, automorphic L-functions and complex primon gases
Near-singularity Wheeler-DeWitt wavefunctions for 5d BKL dynamics are shown to correspond to Hecke L-functions over Gaussian or Eisenstein integers, whose Euler products define complex 'primon gas' partition functions.

Bootstrapping black holes at low impact parameter
After subtracting the eikonal carrier, the residual SDR spectrum in six dimensions organizes into a cap-saturated low-impact band, an empty gap, and Regge-like ridges whose weak-coupling edge is the G_N=0 baseline.

Black Hole Entropy, Quantum Corrections and EFT Transitions
Quantum corrections to BPS black hole entropy in 4d N=2 string compactifications can be resummed into a finite formula that interpolates between four- and five-dimensional EFT descriptions and matches exact 5d microst...

Size and Shape of Rotating Strings and the Correspondence to Black Holes
The perpendicular-to-parallel size ratio of highly excited rotating strings agrees with rotating black holes at small angular momentum, with a random-walk model reproducing the sizes at all spins.

String Theory in a Pinch: Resolving the Gregory-Laflamme Singularity
Near-Hagedorn string solutions show that in five and six spacetime dimensions, the Gregory-Laflamme pinch halts at a stable stringy neck that slowly evaporates, avoiding a naked singularity.

Scalar Hair at the String-Black-Hole Correspondence
All static spherical axion-dilaton solutions are SL(2,R) images of the FJNW seed, and scalar hair increases the alpha-prime curvature diagnostic at the string-black-hole correspondence surface, selecting the hairless ...

Phases of String Stars in the Presence of a Spatial Circle
String star phase diagrams on a spatial circle are computed: new d=2 solutions, a quartic-induced d=5 swallowtail, and an anomalous d=6 stability pattern.
