We provide a brief overview of what is known about Quadratic Gravity, which includes terms quadratic in the curvatures in the fundamental action. This is proposed as a renormalizeable UV completion for quantum gravity which continues to use the metric as the fundamental dynamical variable. However, there are unusual field-theoretic consequences because the propagators contain quartic momentum dependence. At the present stage of our understanding, Quadratic Gravity continues to be a viable candidate for a theory of quantum gravity.

  1. Lorentz violating quadratic gravity

    hep-th 2026-03 reject novelty 6.0 of 10

Bumblebee–quadratic gravity needs new Lorentz-violating counterterms at one loop, but the displayed computation has a gauge-parameter inconsistency and the classical Schwarzschild/de Sitter solutions are the robust part.

  2. Higher-Order Newton-Cartan Gravity

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The authors derive non-relativistic Newton-Cartan limits of quadratic gravity theories, obtaining higher-order corrected Poisson equations for Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet and Ricci-squared gravity.

  3. Thermodynamics of FLRW universe in Quadratic Gravity

    gr-qc 2025-07 reject novelty 5.0 of 10

Quadratic-gravity terms are claimed to shift the thermodynamic phase structure of the FLRW apparent horizon, but the printed critical-radius formula does not follow from the paper's own equation of state.
