A common feature of the extended phase space of gauge theory, the crossed product of quantum theory, and quantum reference frames (QRFs) is the adjoining of degrees of freedom followed by a constraining procedure for the resulting total system. Building on previous work, we identify non-commutative or quantum geometry as a mathematical framework which unifies these three objects. We first provide a rigorous account of the extended phase space, and demonstrate that it can be regarded as a classical principal bundle with a Poisson manifold base. We then show that the crossed product is a trivial quantum principal bundle which both substantiates a conjecture on the quantization of the extended phase space and facilitates a relational interpretation. Combining several crossed products with possibly distinct structure groups into a single object, we arrive at a novel definition of a quantum orbifold. We demonstrate that change of frame maps within the quantum orbifold correspond to quantum gauge transformations, which are QRF preserving maps between crossed product algebras. Finally, we conclude that the quantum orbifold is equivalent to the G-framed algebra proposed in prior work, thereby placing systems containing multiple QRFs squarely in the context of quantum geometry.

  1. Quantization of Gravity on Null Hypersurfaces

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

An operator-algebraic quantization of the characteristic initial-value problem yields a candidate on-shell algebra for a gravitational subregion bounded by two null hypersurfaces.

  2. Soft edges: the many links between soft and edge modes

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

In Maxwell theory, asymptotically charged edge modes (soft edges) pull asymptotic symmetries and soft data into finite subregions, giving finite-distance corner charges without an infinite-volume limit.

  3. Chaos and the Emergence of the Cosmological Horizon

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Finite-mass observers in dS2 have non-commuting type I algebras, and their OTOC shows a Lyapunov exponent 4π/β_dS, twice the de Sitter bound.

  4. Entanglement Entropy of Quantum Corners

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For a two-dimensional corner symmetry algebra, coherent corner states give an entanglement entropy that scales with the area when mapped to near-extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes.

  5. On the relation between perspective-neutral, algebraic, and effective quantum reference frames

    quant-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For ideal quantum reference frames with a single constraint, the perspective-neutral, algebraic, and effective semiclassical approaches describe the same physics and the same frame-switching rules.

  6. Quantum Rods and Clock in a Gravitational Universe

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper shows, to leading order in perturbation theory, that matter distribution fluctuations can serve as a Goldstone vector field, allowing diffeomorphism-invariant local operators through O_Phys(x) = O(x - δϕ).

  7. Linearization (in)stabilities and crossed products

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Second-order Taub charge constraints are justified as linearization stability conditions in spatially closed spacetimes, while in boundary or no-isometry cases the justification is weaker and depends on interest in se...
