Stars have been recognized as optimal laboratories to probe axion properties. In the last decades there have been significant advances in this field due to a better modelling of stellar systems and accurate observational data. In this work we review the current status of constraints on axions from stellar physics. We focus in particular on the Sun, globular cluster stars, white dwarfs and (proto)-neutron stars.

    hep-ph 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Axions produced in supernovae generate a diffuse gamma-ray signal through conversion in magnetic fields, yielding competitive constraints on the axion-photon coupling from COMPTEL, EGRET, and Fermi-LAT data plus forec...

  2. Landau-Zener formula and resonant axion conversion in neutron star magnetospheres

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

The Landau-Zener approximation for axion-photon conversion in neutron star magnetospheres fails when resonance width exceeds conversion region size, leading to revised axion constraints from optical-band searches.

  4. Rotation-induced Relaxation of Supernova Constraints on Axionlike Particles

    astro-ph.HE 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Stellar rotation relaxes supernova energy-loss bounds on axion-like particles by reducing core temperatures but has negligible impact on gamma-ray constraints from SN 1987A.

  5. Stripped-Envelope Supernovae for QCD Axion Detection

Stripped-envelope supernovae enable QCD axion detection to masses around 10^{-4} eV via gamma-ray signals from conversion in progenitor magnetic fields.

  6. Reappraisal of the Constraints on Heavy Axion-like Particles from Gamma-Ray Bursts

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0

  7. Enhanced Stellar Production of Weakly Interacting Slim Particles from Non-Thermal Nuclear Cascades

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Non-thermal photon cascades via Compton reprocessing and positron annihilation in stars create a broad photon spectrum that substantially boosts photon-coupled WISP production, as shown for solar dark photons.

  8. Axion-photon conversion in transient compact stars: Systematics, constraints, and opportunities

    hep-ph 2025-09 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Analytical expressions for ALP-photon conversion in transient compact stars yield an updated bound g_aγ < 5×10^{-12} GeV^{-1} for m_a ≲ 10^{-9} eV from SN 1987A, plus sensitivity forecasts for future Galactic SN and N...

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0
