We recently introduced new concepts, implemented in EPOS4, which allow to consistently accommodate factorization and saturation in high energy proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions, in a rigorous parallel scattering framework. EPOS4 has a modular structure and in this paper, we present in detail how the "single scattering module" (the main EPOS4 building block) is related to perturbative QCD, and how these calculations are performed, with particular care being devoted to heavy flavor contributions. We discuss similarities and differences compared to the usual pQCD approach based on factorization.

  1. Multiplicity dependence of prompt and non-prompt J/$\psi$ production at midrapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV

    hep-ex 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Self-normalized yields of prompt and non-prompt J/ψ increase stronger than linearly with charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at 13 TeV, with stronger effect in the toward azimuthal region.

  2. Measurements of charged-particle pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions in O+O and Ne+Ne collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_\text{NN}}} = 5.36$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

    nucl-ex 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0

ATLAS measures charged-particle pseudorapidity density and mean transverse momentum in O+O and Ne+Ne collisions at 5.36 TeV as a function of centrality and eta.

  3. Disentangling Initial-State and Evolution Effects in Heavy-Ion Collisions Using EPOS and PHSD

    hep-ph 2025-09 conditional novelty 5.0

By swapping initial conditions and evolution engines between EPOS and PHSD, the authors find that the dynamical evolution stage, not the initial state, dominates final hadron spectra and elliptic flow in 200 GeV Au+Au...
