We demonstrate that gravitational particle production (GPP) of a massive, Abelian, vector (Proca) field during inflation in the presence of nonminimal coupling to gravity may suffer from an instability which leads to runaway production of high-momentum modes. This is untenable unless there is some mechanism to regulate the runaway. We discuss the parameter space of the particle mass and nonminimal couplings where such a runaway occurs and possible ways to tame the runaway. We find that there is no obvious way to resolve the runaway in a UV completion or with kinetic mixing to the standard model.

The effects of non Bunch-Davies initial conditions on gravitationally produced relics
Non-Bunch–Davies initial conditions can drastically change gravitationally produced vector dark matter abundances, opening a wider viable mass range.

Constraining Dark Photon Dark Matter with Radio Silence from Soliton Mergers around Supermassive Black Holes
Non-observation of radio bursts from soliton mergers around supermassive black holes constrains dark photon solitons to make up less than about 1% of dark matter, with future surveys reaching 0.2%.

Superheavy Dark Matter from the String Theory Axiverse
Heavy axions from a simple string-theory compactification can be produced in large numbers by gravitational particle production at the end of inflation and can account for all dark matter, provided they remain stable ...

A self-consistent Higgs-portal framework for dark matter--admixed neutron stars: Collider-motivated benchmarks meet multimessenger constraints
Adding heavy dark matter to neutron stars via nχ=FχnB softens the equation of state and lowers the maximum mass, but the vector interaction invoked is numerically negligible.

Aspects of massive gauge fields
