Using the recently established formalism of a worldline quantum field theory (WQFT) description of the classical scattering of two spinless black holes, we compute the far-field time-domain waveform of the gravitational waves produced in the encounter at leading order in the post-Minkowskian (weak field, but generic velocity) expansion. We reproduce previous results of Kovacs and Thorne in a highly economic way. Then using the waveform we extract the leading-order total radiated angular momentum and energy (including differential results). Our work may enable crucial improvements of gravitational-wave predictions in the regime of large relative velocities.

  2. Memory effect from the scattering of Taub-NUT black holes

    hep-th 2026-03 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Soft theorems yield a gauge-invariant nutty soft factor and the associated memory tensor for Kerr-Taub-NUT scattering, with magnetic components and directional divergences absent in electromagnetism.

  3. Conservative Black Hole Scattering at Fifth Post-Minkowskian and Second Self-Force Order

    hep-th 2026-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The conservative black-hole scattering angle at fifth post-Minkowskian and second self-force order is computed in terms of K3 periods, but contains a coefficient fixed only by an ad hoc 'γ-3' prescription.

  4. Entire Four-Graviton EFT from the Duality Between Color and Kinematics

    hep-th 2026-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Every parity-even four-graviton amplitude in any spacetime dimension can be constructed from gauge-theory building blocks via double or triple color-kinematics copies, with the D>6 Lovelock R^3 term as the unique trip...

  5. Generalized Unitarity Method for Worldline Field Theory

    hep-th 2025-10 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Worldline gravitational observables can be bootstrapped from locality, unitarity, gauge invariance, and a soft theorem once worldline energies are complexified, reproducing the known O(G^5/2) waveform and O(G^3) on-sh...

  6. Nonlinear Gravitational Memory in the Post-Minkowskian Expansion

    hep-th 2025-06 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Exact-in-velocity formulas for the O(G^3) nonlinear gravitational memory multipoles from two-body scattering, derived with scattering amplitudes and reverse unitarity, and matched to post-Newtonian results.

  7. "Waveforms" at the Horizon

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A probe scattering off a Schwarzschild black hole transfers a definite leading-order post-Minkowskian angular momentum to the horizon, given by new closed formulas (3.24b), (3.29), (3.36).

  8. In-in worldline formalism in pair creating fields

    hep-th 2025-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In-in observables in pair-creating QED backgrounds are re-expressed exactly as in-out matrix elements with a universal non-local insertion, yielding a first-quantized formula for the probability of producing N pairs.

  9. Manifest symplecticity in classical scattering

    hep-th 2025-11 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

The on-shell action and the exponential scattering generator differ as functions, but the on-shell action of the true Hamiltonian equals the on-shell action of the generator treated as a unit-time effective Hamiltonian.
