abstract

The hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) framework is used to calculate the thermodynamic functions of a quark-gluon plasma to three-loop order. This is the highest order accessible by finite temperature perturbation theory applied to a non-Abelian gauge theory before the high-temperature infrared catastrophe. All ultraviolet divergences are eliminated by renormalization of the vacuum, the HTL mass parameters, and the strong coupling constant. After choosing a prescription for the mass parameters, the three-loop results for the pressure and trace anomaly are found to be in very good agreement with recent lattice data down to $T \sim 2-3\,T_c$, which are temperatures accessible by current and forthcoming heavy-ion collision experiments.

  1. The Equation of State of QCD up to very high temperatures

    hep-lat 2025-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Using shifted boundary conditions, the authors compute s/T^3 in Nf=3 QCD from 3 to 165 GeV and find values a few percent below the Stefan-Boltzmann limit.

  2. Scale dependence improvement of the quartic scalar field thermal effective potential in the optimized perturbation theory

    hep-ph 2025-09 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Introduces the variational renormalization group method to improve renormalization-scale stability in the finite-temperature effective potential of λφ⁴ theory compared to optimized perturbation theory alone.

  3. Non-extensive Hard Thermal Loop Resummation and Its Applications: Analysis in Zero and Finite Magnetic Fields

    hep-ph 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Non-extensive HTL corrections increase the Debye mass, weaken the heavy quark potential, and lower the predicted melting temperatures of J/Ψ and Υ, with a magnetic field opposing the effect.

  4. What is the Quark-Gluon Plasma made of?

    nucl-th 2025-06 accept novelty 2.0 of 10

The quark-gluon plasma is best described as a strongly coupled liquid of massive, very short-lived quark and gluon quasiparticles, with sound (phonon) modes becoming the most well-defined collective excitation at low momenta.

  5. The equation of state for neutron stars

    nucl-th 2026-07 unverdicted

A textbook-style review of the neutron-star equation of state covering the models, experimental and observational constraints, and open questions, with no new result claimed or derived.
