abstract
Modular fluctuations have previously been shown to obey an area law $\langle \Delta K^2 \rangle = \langle K \rangle = {A}/{4 G_N}$. Furthermore, modular fluctuations generate fluctuations in the spacetime geometry of empty causal diamonds. Here we demonstrate the physical origin of these fluctuations, showing that the modular area law, in $d-$dimensionsal Minkowski space, can be reproduced from shockwaves arising from vacuum fluctuations. The size of the vacuum fluctuations is fixed by commutation relations in light-ray operators, of the same form postulated by 't Hooft in the context of black hole horizons.

JT gravity on the worldline
Coupling a worldline observer to JT gravity replaces its evolution operator by an exactly computed average over fluctuating Euclidean times; the fluctuations are small in the disk but large on the double trumpet.

Quantization of Gravity on Null Hypersurfaces
An operator-algebraic quantization of the characteristic initial-value problem yields a candidate on-shell algebra for a gravitational subregion bounded by two null hypersurfaces.

Geometric noise spectrum in interferometers
The noise spectrum an interferometer would see from quantum spacetime jitter is computed for vacuum, thermal, squeezed, and scalar-backreaction states; all are Planck-suppressed.

From Asymptotically Flat Gravity to Finite Causal Diamonds
The soft sector phase space of asymptotically flat gravity equals the phase space of radial size fluctuations of a finite causal diamond in flat spacetime.

Entanglement Entropy of Quantum Corners
For a two-dimensional corner symmetry algebra, coherent corner states give an entanglement entropy that scales with the area when mapped to near-extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes.

Effective density matrix for vacua in asymptotically flat gravity
The vacuum of a large causal diamond in asymptotically flat gravity is claimed to be a Gaussian in the supertranslation Goldstone mode, giving modular Hamiltonian variance A/epsilon squared.
