Hidden Hearts of Neutrino Active Galaxies
read the original abstract
Recent multimessenger studies have provided evidence for high-energy neutrino sources that are opaque to GeV-TeV gamma rays. We present model-independent studies on the connection between neutrinos and gamma rays in the active galaxy NGC 1068, and find that the neutrinos most likely come from regions within about 30-100 Schwarzschild radii. This is especially the case if neutrinos are produced via the photomeson production process, although the constraints could be alleviated if hadronuclear interactions are dominant. We consider the most favorable neutrino production regions, and discuss coronae, jets, winds, and their interactions with dense material. The results strengthen the importance of understanding dissipation mechanisms near the coronal region and the outflow base. There could be a connection between active galactic nuclei with near-Eddington accretion and tidal disruptions events, in that neutrinos are produced in the obscured vicinity of supermassive black holes.

Flavorful Interactions of AGN Neutrinos with Dark Matter Spike
IceCube-Gen2 flavor ratios can discriminate a U(1) neutrino–dark-matter model in AGN spikes from the standard (1/3:1/3:1/3) and muon-damped predictions, and, combined with mass-ordering and tau-decay data, constrain t...

Revisiting bounds on neutrino dark matter interaction at spikes
For light vector mediators, neutrino energy loss in dark-matter spikes is negligible, so cascade attenuation is suppressed by a small factor f and prior cross-section bounds are relaxed by 1/f.

The Delta Resonance in the Neutrino Sky
A proton spectrum with index -3.1 interacting with 0.3 keV X-rays via the Delta resonance reproduces the observed 30 TeV neutrino break and limits the accompanying gamma-ray cascade contribution to ~10% of the isotrop...

Neutrino and pair creation in reconnection-powered coronae of accreting black holes

Active Galactic Nuclei as high-energy neutrino sources
AGN (jetted and non-jetted) are viable high-energy neutrino sources, with TXS 0506+056 and NGC 1068 as the only statistically significant associations so far, while gamma-ray blazars contribute only a small fraction o...
