This is the draft/updated version of a textbook on "real-world" applications of the AdS/CFT duality for beginning graduate students in particle physics and for researchers in the other fields. The aim of this book is to provide background materials such as string theory, general relativity, nuclear physics, nonequilibrium physics, and condensed-matter physics as well as some key applications of the AdS/CFT duality in a single textbook. Contents: (1) Introduction, (2) General relativity and black holes, (3) Black holes and thermodynamics, (4) Strong interaction and gauge theories, (5) The road to AdS/CFT, (6) The AdS spacetime, (7) AdS/CFT - equilibrium, (8) AdS/CFT - adding probes, (9) Basics of nonequilibrium physics, (10) AdS/CFT - nonequilibrium, (11) Other AdS spacetimes, (12) Applications to quark-gluon plasma, (13) Basics of phase transition, (14) AdS/CFT - phase transition, (15) Exercises.

  1. Holographic D-brane constructions with dynamical gauge fields

    hep-th 2025-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Equips bottom-up holographic D-brane models with dynamical boundary gauge fields and shows that quasinormal mode dispersion relations in equilibrium and nonequilibrium states match hydrodynamics with dynamical U(1) symmetry.

  2. Einstein Rings in Holography

    hep-th 2019-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

A formula maps QFT response functions under periodic sources to Einstein ring images of dual AdS black holes, with the ring radius set by the QFT total energy for Schwarzschild-AdS4.

  3. The dual Ginzburg-Landau theory for a holographic superfluid/superconductor: Critical dynamics

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Identifies the dual model F equations for a 5D holographic superconductor/superfluid in the probe limit, obtaining numerical coefficients exactly.

  4. Traversable wormhole with double trace deformations via gravitational shear and sound channels

    hep-th 2025-11 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Double trace deformations create traversable wormholes in AdS5 black branes via gravitational shear and sound channel perturbations that violate ANEC in the hydrodynamic limit.

  5. Comments on higher-derivative corrections in the AdS/CFT duality

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 3.0

Prior works on higher-derivative corrections to holographic superconductors may employ an incorrect AdS/CFT dictionary, so that the direction of change in spontaneous condensate depends on the specific model with no u...

  6. Holographic entanglement entropy and complexity for the cosmological braneworld model

    hep-th 2025-05 unverdicted novelty 3.0

Time-dependent holographic entanglement entropy and complexity are computed perturbatively for braneworld FLRW universes with radiation, matter, and exotic matter by using time-dependent brane positions in black brane...
