The gravitational physics landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by our ability to study strong-field regions, in particular black holes. Black Holes Inside and Out gathered world experts to discuss the status of the field and prospects ahead. We hope that the ideas and perspectives are a source of inspiration. 1. Thermodynamics of dynamical black holes beyond perturbation theory

    gr-qc 2026-03 accept novelty 7.0

The authors derive non-perturbative first and second laws for dynamical black holes, identifying entropy with the area of local marginally trapped surfaces rather than the global event horizon.

  2. All $2D$ generalised dilaton theories from $d\geq 4$ gravities

    hep-th 2026-03 conditional novelty 7.0

Generic 2D Horndeski theories arise from dimensional reduction of d≥4 gravities, yielding a Birkhoff theorem for quasi-topological gravities where static spherically symmetric solutions satisfy g_tt g_rr = -1 and are ...

  3. Effective geometrodynamics for renormalization-group improved black-hole spacetimes in spherical symmetry

    gr-qc 2026-01 unverdicted novelty 7.0

RG-improved black hole spacetimes with scale-dependent gravitational coupling are derived as vacuum solutions to 2D Horndeski master field equations, embedding prior works and exposing implementation discrepancies.

  4. Null geodesic defocusing in dynamical black-hole-to-white-hole transitions

    gr-qc 2026-06 accept novelty 6.0

Dynamical black-hole-to-white-hole transitions require a violation of the null convergence condition for the trapped region to disappear and the anti-trapped region to form.

  5. $g_{tt}g_{rr} =-1$ black hole thermodynamics in extended quasi-topological gravity

    gr-qc 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

A unified framework links the generating function for static black holes satisfying g_tt g_rr=-1 in extended quasi-topological gravity to thermodynamic mass and Wald entropy via an effective 2D dilaton theory.

  6. Nonlinear Stability of Kerr-Sen Black Holes in Merging Binaries

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Head-on binary black hole simulations in EMDA theory show dilaton and axion fields persist through merger, indicating nonlinear stability of Kerr-Sen black holes and scalarization of initially unscalarized solutions.

  7. Shadow of the Scalar Hairy Black Hole with Inverted Higgs Potential

    gr-qc 2025-01 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Hairy black hole shadows and disks grow with horizon scalar value but can mimic Schwarzschild by adjusting horizon radius, with the potential parameter Lambda constrained by supermassive black hole observations.
