Localized charged fields are a general feature of many realistic string compactifications. In four dimensions they can lead to a multitude of perturbatively-exact global symmetries. If spontaneously broken, they generate a new axiverse compatible with post-inflationary evolutions.

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 8.0 of 10

Big axions are axion models from collective spontaneous breaking of a delocalized network of U(1) symmetries that realize high-quality accidental global symmetries, solve the strong CP problem, and may explain dark matter.

  3. Heterotic String Theory Suggests a QCD Axion Near 0.5 neV

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Heterotic string theory implies the QCD axion mass is bounded below by 0.5 neV and typically falls in [0.5, 0.8] neV across most compactifications.

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Radion dynamics in warped 5D models enhance the axion decay constant during inflation, satisfying CMB isocurvature bounds at higher Hubble scales while restoring the QCD window afterward.

  7. Testing F-theory GUTs with the Axiverse

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

In F-theory GUTs, non-universal ALPs induced by hypercharge flux satisfy g_aγ/m_a well below the QCD axion prediction when gauge couplings unify near the string scale.

  8. Pre-inflationary QCD axion stars after moduli domination

    hep-ph 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Pre-inflationary QCD axions form dense stars with densities up to 10^4 eV^4 that contain up to 50% of dark matter after moduli domination.

  9. Axiverse Lampposts

    hep-ph 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In a hierarchical multi-axion theory with random couplings, axion field ranges shrink with 1/sqrt(N), generic axion–SM couplings are suppressed, but the QCD axion's coupling is unsuppressed.

  10. The String Theory Photoverse

    hep-th 2025-10 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Massless string-theory hidden photons acquire dimension-six dipole couplings to SM fermions with suppression scale Λ = αM_s, converting dipole measurements into constraints on the string scale.
