Einstein's theory in the vacuum was recently shown to possess an $SO(2)$ duality invariance, which is broken by coupling to matter. Duality invariance can be restored by enlarging the phase space of the theory to allow for violations of the algebraic Bianchi identity. We show that in cases where the matter content can be understood as a component of the torsion tensor duality can be restored and we compute the corresponding duality current. We consider the case of NS-NS gravity as an example and find that the duality current is given by the divergence of the axion. In the linearized approximation of the low energy heterotic string theory these results imply that duality of the generalized Riemann curvature tensor implements Riemannian, axion-dilaton and electro-magnetic dualities simultaneously.

  1. Gravitational electric-magnetic duality at the light ring and quasinormal mode isospectrality in effective field theories

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Gravitational electric-magnetic duality at the light ring organizes and preserves quasinormal mode isospectrality in GR and selects duality-invariant higher-derivative corrections in effective field theories.

  2. Gravielectric and gravimagnetic fluxes in nutty black holes

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Misner strings carry singular gravielectric and gravimagnetic fluxes that connect horizons to infinity, explaining negative Komar masses as incoming field lines and showing the strings are massless empty tubes.

  3. Spinfoams, $\gamma$-duality and parity violation in primordial gravitational waves

    gr-qc 2024-03 unverdicted novelty 6.0

γ-duality in the EPRL spinfoam model determines the relation between parity-even and parity-odd terms in an effective gravity theory, allowing the Barbero-Immirzi parameter to be measured from inflationary tensor observables.

  4. Taub-NUT as gravitational dyon with torsion

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0

Taub-NUT's Misner strings are torsion defects; with this torsion, the spacetime is a soliton sourced by two spin-fluid beams with a cosmic-string-like equation of state.

  5. Gravitational helicity in connection variables

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Gravitational helicity is derived as the Noether charge of a U(1) duality in self-dual Ashtekar variables and shown to equal the Nieh-Yan topological term in real variables.
