In this paper we explore some of the features of large N supersymmetric and nonsupersymmetric gauge theories using Maldacena's duality conjectures. We shall show that the resulting strong coupling behavior of the gauge theories is consistent with our qualitative expectations of these theories. Some of these consistency checks are highly nontrivial and give additional evidence for the validity of the proposed dualities.

  1. Exact Schwarzian Metric Factor and Holographic Wilson-Loop Screening

    hep-th 2026-07 accept novelty 7.0 of 10

Exact Schwarzian averaging yields a completely monotone metric factor with no confining minimum, so the Wilson-loop potential screens as E(L) ~ -κ_IR/L² rather than confining.

  2. Symmetry TFTs from String Theory

    hep-th 2021-12 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Constructs Symmetry TFTs for M-theory compactifications by reducing the topological sector of 11d supergravity on the boundary of X using differential cohomology, with applications to 7d SYM and 5d SCFTs confirmed via...

  3. Wilson surface correlator in AdS/CFT

    hep-th 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

    A membrane-minimal-surface calculation in AdS7 predicts a first-order Gross-Ooguri phase transition between two fundamental spherical Wilson surfaces at separation L*/R_b ≈ 0.5843.

  4. Gravitational index, black hole saddle degeneracy, and one-form symmetry

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

The |G|-fold degeneracy of supersymmetric AdS5 black hole index saddles is fixed by the flux-quantized BF coupling of the bulk one-form symmetry and persists unmodified in the decompactified black-brane limit.

  5. Wilson loops on the Coulomb branch of $N=4$ super-Yang-Mills

    hep-th 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Holographic minimal-surface calculation maps the Gross-Ooguri phase transition for circular Wilson loops on the Coulomb branch and indicates tree-level exactness for the straight line.

  6. Dilatonic states, phase transitions, and criticality in holography

    hep-th 2026-07 accept novelty 3.0 of 10

A review of holographic examples indicating that a light dilaton appears near critical endpoints of first-order zero-temperature phase transitions, with explicit but lower-dimensional demonstrations.
