We study the thermal emission of photons from hot and dense strongly interacting hadronic matter at temperatures close to the expected phase transition to the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Earlier calculations of photon radiation from ensembles of interacting mesons are re-examined with additional constraints, including new production channels as well as an assessment of hadronic form factor effects. Whereas strangeness-induced photon yields turn out to be moderate, the hitherto not considered t-channel exchange of omega mesons is found to contribute appreciably for photon energies above ~1.5 GeV. The role of baryonic effects is assessed using existing many-body calculations of lepton pair production. We argue that our combined results constitute a rather realistic emission rate, appropriate for applications in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Supplemented with recent evaluations of QGP emission, and an estimate for primordial (hard) production, we compute photon spectra at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies.

  1. Rotating synchrotron radiation: Photon emission from magnetized and rotating quark-gluon plasma

    hep-ph 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0

Rotation enhances synchrotron photon emission from negatively charged quarks in a magnetized QGP, producing a low-transverse-momentum v2 that can reduce the direct photon puzzle tension.

  2. Probing Pair Correlations in QCD Matter with Photon Spectra

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Relative-angle modes of pair correlations produce sign-changing modifications to the in-medium photon spectrum with magnitudes comparable to the factorized contribution.

  3. Transport coefficients of strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma including elastic and inelastic scattering within the dynamical quasiparticle model

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Including radiative 2-to-3 channels in the DQPM moderately lowers all four transport coefficients relative to the elastic baseline while remaining compatible with lattice QCD at mu_B=0.

  4. Thermal Radiation from an Analytic Hydrodynamic Model with Hadronic and QGP Sources in Heavy-Ion Collisions

    hep-ph 2025-07 unverdicted novelty 4.0

An analytic hydrodynamic model with QGP and hadronic photon sources reproduces measured non-prompt direct photon spectra in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions and extracts centrality-dependent initial temperatures.

  5. Electrical conductivity of QGP with quasiparticle quarks and Gribov gluon

    hep-ph 2024-04 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Electrical conductivity of QGP is estimated above deconfinement temperature via quasiparticle quarks and Gribov gluons in relaxation-time approximation, showing agreement with lattice QCD.
