We apply a state-of-the-art, local derivative-free solver, Py-BOBYQA, to global optimization problems, and propose an algorithmic improvement that is beneficial in this context. Our numerical findings are illustrated on a commonly-used but small-scale test set of global optimization problems and associated noisy variants, and on hyperparameter tuning for the machine learning test set MNIST. As Py-BOBYQA is a model-based trust-region method, we compare mostly (but not exclusively) with other global optimization methods for which (global) models are important, such as Bayesian optimization and response surface methods; we also consider state-of-the-art representative deterministic and stochastic codes, such as DIRECT and CMA-ES. As a heuristic for escaping local minima, we find numerically that Py-BOBYQA is competitive with global optimization solvers for all accuracy/budget regimes, in both smooth and noisy settings. In particular, Py-BOBYQA variants are best performing for smooth and multiplicative noise problems in high-accuracy regimes. As a by-product, some preliminary conclusions can be drawn on the relative performance of the global solvers we have tested with default settings.

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

A neural-network emulator predicts the ratio of nonlinear to linear modified-gravity matter power spectra across a 28-dimensional cosmological and MG parameter space, matching MGCAMB+ReACT to roughly 1–2%.

  2. Cosmological consequences of a dynamical dark matter in the light of DESI DR2 measurements

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

A dynamical dark matter model with a late-time negative equation of state fits DESI DR2 and CMB data better than Lambda-CDM (Delta-DIC about -8) but worse than CPL dynamical dark energy.

  3. Alleviating the Hubble Tension with Smooth Sign-Switching Dark Energy: Full CMB Constraints with DESI and PantheonPlus

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

Smooth ECDM dark energy remains compatible with Planck+ACT+SPT, DESI DR2 and Pantheon+/SH0ES while alleviating the Hubble tension through a controlled late-time density transition.

  4. Late-Time Oscillating Quintessence in Light of DESI

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0

A late-onset oscillating quintessence model improves the fit to DESI plus supernova and CMB data by Delta chi squared of about 9 over Lambda CDM, driven by background expansion.

  5. Late-time Quantum Vacuum Decay and its Cosmological Implications

    astro-ph.CO 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Phenomenological late-time vacuum-tunneling models are fit to DESI DR2, supernova, and CMB data, allowing up to 50% vacuum-energy drop for z_t < 1 and a preferred z_t ~7 model that converts ~10% dark matter while easi...

  6. Negative neutrino mass or negative dark energy?

    astro-ph.CO 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

A sign-switching dark energy model (Λ_s CDM) recovers positive effective neutrino masses (0.055 ± 0.050 eV) consistent with oscillation data, unlike ΛCDM which prefers negative values (-0.075 eV), for DESI DR2 + CMB +...

  7. Revisiting constraints on primordial vector modes and implications for sourced magnetic fields and observed $EB$ power spectrum

    astro-ph.CO 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Updated constraints on neutrino-sustained primordial vector modes imply magnetic fields too weak to seed observations and cannot reproduce the EB power spectrum while satisfying parity-even limits.

  8. Inflation at the End of 2025: Constraints on $r$ and $n_s$ Using the Latest CMB and BAO Data

    astro-ph.CO 2025-12 accept novelty 5.0

New Planck+SPT+ACT+BICEP/Keck constraints give n_s=0.9682±0.0032, r<0.034; adding DESI shifts n_s to 0.9728±0.0029, favoring monomial over Starobinsky inflation.

    astro-ph.CO 2025-07 conditional novelty 5.0

CMB-only data give f_EDE < 0.07 at 95% CL with no strong AEDE signal, while CMB+DESI yields f_EDE = 0.055^{+0.024}_{-0.047} at 68% CL and lowers Hubble tension to 2.6 sigma.
