The black hole information paradox is among the most outstanding puzzles in physics. I argue here there is yet another black hole quandary which, in light of the recent direct detection of gravitational waves by Advanced LIGO, reveals a new window to probe the nature of spacetime in the forthcoming era of 'precision gravity.'

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 8.0 of 10

In a curvature-coupled propagation framework for modified gravity, gravitational-wave lensing in wave optics shows persistent infrared interactions that prevent the amplification factor from approaching unity at zero ...

  3. Dynamical Love Numbers for Black Holes and Beyond from Shell Effective Field Theory

    hep-th 2025-12 accept novelty 8.0 of 10

A shell-based EFT computes scalar Love numbers for Schwarzschild black holes through O(G^9) and conjectures an all-orders Riemann-zeta structure.

  4. Love numbers of black p-branes: fine tuning, Love symmetries, and their geometrization

    hep-th 2025-02 accept novelty 8.0 of 10

Scalar Love numbers of non-dilatonic black p-branes vanish for integer rescaled multipoles, extremal p-branes give exactly zero static Love numbers, and the hidden symmetries behind these vanishings become near-horizo...

  5. 5-Dimensional Gravitational Raman Scattering: Scalar Wave Perturbations in Schwarzschild-Tangherlini Spacetime

    hep-th 2025-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

  6. Higher-Dimensional Black Holes and Effective Field Theory

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Higher-dimensional spinning black holes generally have nonzero scalar tidal Love numbers, with patterns of zeroes in special limits, computed via point-particle EFT matching.

  7. Tidal contributions to the full gravitational waveform to the second-and-a-half post-Newtonian order

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Tidal contributions to all gravitational waveform amplitude modes up to l=7 are derived to 2.5PN for quasi-circular non-spinning compact binaries, with flux and phasing provided at the same order.

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Derives exact hypergeometric solutions for static perturbations of 5D Myers-Perry black holes and iteratively computes electromagnetic Love tensors showing lower-to-higher angular momentum mode mixing in the response.

  9. On the logarithmic Love number of black holes beyond general relativity

    gr-qc 2025-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Logarithmic black hole Love numbers are fixed directly by the Taylor coefficients of the perturbation equation, and perturbative deviations from Schwarzschild/Reissner-Nordström force non-zero running.

  10. The Vanishing of the Non-linear Static Love Number of Kerr Black Holes and the Role of Symmetries

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Using the Ernst formalism, the paper argues that the static quadrupole tidal Love number of a Kerr black hole vanishes at full nonlinear order, because a decaying tidal mode would create a naked curvature singularity ...

  11. Can wormholes have vanishing Love numbers?

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

The paper claims the ℓ=2 magnetic tidal Love number of the Dadhich–Kar–Mukherji–Visser R=0 wormhole vanishes to first order in the regularization parameter p, based on a throat-regularity condition that removes the 1/...
