Barbero recently suggested a modification of Ashtekar's choice of canonical variables for general relativity. Although leading to a more complicated Hamiltonian constraint this modified version, in which the configuration variable still is a connection, has the advantage of being real. In this article we derive Barbero's Hamiltonian formulation from an action, which can be considered as a generalization of the ordinary Hilbert-Palatini action.

  1. Renormalization group flows in area-metric gravity

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The first renormalization group analysis of area-metric gravity shows shape-mismatching masses grow toward the infrared, parity is not emergent, and the Immirzi parameter flow has fixed points at γ=0 and γ=∞.

  2. Inflation and Reheating by Dynamical Torsion

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The dynamical-torsion inflaton decays via chiral anomalies and Yukawa-assisted three-body channels, yielding a reheating temperature of 10^5–10^7 GeV and testable CMB/GW predictions.

  3. Nonrotating and rotating black holes with secondary disformal hair in a ghost-free metric-affine parity-violating scalar-torsion theory

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Exact Schwarzschild and Kerr geometries in a disformally related frame yield secondary disformal scalar hair on black holes in a projectively invariant scalar-torsion theory.

  4. Quasi-pole inflation in metric-affine gravity

    gr-qc 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Non-minimal coupling of the inflaton to the Holst invariant in metric-affine gravity induces quasi-pole kinetics that generate an exponential plateau potential and Starobinsky-equivalent predictions regardless of the ...

  5. Torsion induced current-scalaron coupling in Einstein-Cartan gravity

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In Einstein-Cartan gravity, torsion-current couplings induce scalaron-current and scalaron Chern-Simons interactions, with explicit decay constants and a classification of their asymptotic behavior.

  6. The Komar charge in presence of the Holst term and the gravitational Witten effect

    hep-th 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The Holst term shifts the Komar mass of Taub-NUT space by -αN, giving a gravitational analog of the Witten effect.

  7. Spinfoams, $\gamma$-duality and parity violation in primordial gravitational waves

    gr-qc 2024-03 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

γ-duality in the EPRL spinfoam model determines the relation between parity-even and parity-odd terms in an effective gravity theory, allowing the Barbero-Immirzi parameter to be measured from inflationary tensor observables.

  8. Natural Metric-Affine Inflation: Reloaded

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Combining periodic non-minimal couplings to the Nieh-Yan term and Ricci scalar in metric-affine gravity makes natural inflation viable for sub-Planckian periodicity scales.

  9. Inflation with the Gauss-Bonnet term in the Palatini formulation

    astro-ph.CO 2026-03 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

In Palatini gravity the inflaton–Gauss–Bonnet coupling yields a negative Chern–Simons-like kinetic correction and similar GW modifications, with metric-like behaviour unless the kinetic term nearly flips sign.

  10. Unimodular quantum cosmology in the connection representation: A minimal model

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In a flat, empty unimodular quantum cosmology in connection variables, positive-cosmological-constant wave functions vanish at zero volume, while a negative cosmological constant is excluded by operator regularity and...
