abstract

This paper describes the Seventh Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), marking the completion of the original goals of the SDSS and the end of the phase known as SDSS-II. It includes 11663 deg^2 of imaging data, with most of the roughly 2000 deg^2 increment over the previous data release lying in regions of low Galactic latitude. The catalog contains five-band photometry for 357 million distinct objects. The survey also includes repeat photometry over 250 deg^2 along the Celestial Equator in the Southern Galactic Cap. A coaddition of these data goes roughly two magnitudes fainter than the main survey. The spectroscopy is now complete over a contiguous area of 7500 deg^2 in the Northern Galactic Cap, closing the gap that was present in previous data releases. There are over 1.6 million spectra in total, including 930,000 galaxies, 120,000 quasars, and 460,000 stars. The data release includes improved stellar photometry at low Galactic latitude. The astrometry has all been recalibrated with the second version of the USNO CCD Astrograph Catalog (UCAC-2), reducing the rms statistical errors at the bright end to 45 milli-arcseconds per coordinate. A systematic error in bright galaxy photometr is less severe than previously reported for the majority of galaxies. Finally, we describe a series of improvements to the spectroscopic reductions, including better flat-fielding and improved wavelength calibration at the blue end, better processing of objects with extremely strong narrow emission lines, and an improved determination of stellar metallicities. (LRDs)$^2$: The Low-ReDshift Little Red Dots Survey. II. DESI DR1 Sample

astro-ph.GA · 2026-05-20 · unverdicted · novelty 7.0

The survey identifies 27 low-redshift LRDs with compact morphology, V-shaped continua, broad Balmer lines with extreme decrements, and ubiquitous outflows, matching high-z counterparts and yielding a number density lower limit of 7.5e-10 cMpc^-3.

HI Observations of Baryon-Dominated Dwarf Galaxy Candidates

astro-ph.GA · 2026-05-17 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

Resolved HI observations of six baryon-dominated dwarf galaxy candidates show four are dark-matter deficient with high baryon efficiency, two in isolated environments without tidal signs.

Magnetised CGM Gas at z~1 revealed by SPICE-RACS

astro-ph.GA · 2026-05-16 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

A 4.5σ excess RM dispersion of 4.13 ± 0.91 rad m^{-2} is found in 191 Mg II sightlines versus controls, implying model-dependent CGM magnetic fields of 0.4-0.8 μG at projected radii 20-150 kpc and z~1.14.

A Detailed View of the Large-Scale Sloshing Cold Front in RXJ2014.8-2430

astro-ph.HE · 2026-04-30 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

Deep Chandra data confirms three cold fronts in RXJ2014.8-2430 with widths indicating suppressed diffusion and identifies a concave structure consistent with either a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability or a powerful AGN cavity of radius 200-330 kpc.

Sparks: The Magellan/FIRE survey from starburst to post-starburst

astro-ph.GA · 2026-04-14 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

The Sparks survey divides local galaxies into first-burst, second-burst, and post-burst groups, finding AGN predominantly in second-burst systems and implying a short delay before black hole accretion.

Correlation between baryonic process and galaxy assembly bias

astro-ph.GA · 2026-05-19 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0

Simulations show gas cooling and stellar feedback dominate assembly bias for stellar-mass selected galaxies while star formation gives way to gas cooling for SFR-selected galaxies as number density rises.

Combined tracer analysis for DESI 2024 BAO

astro-ph.CO · 2025-08-07 · accept · novelty 5.0

Combining LRG and ELG tracers with bias weighting improves BAO constraints by 11% on alpha_iso and 7% on alpha_AP in DESI DR1 data for the 0.8<z<1.1 bin.
